Yates Anchors Warwickshire's Iron Grip on Sussex

Warwickshire nursed a 217-run lead by stumps on day two at Hove. Rob Yates kept chipping away, just three shy of his hundred. Tim Robinson chipped in with 42. But Gus Atkinson snared three wickets to dent Sussex late. Yates had resumed on 64 overnight. He looked solid from the off, nudging singles, occasionally cracking boundaries. Fell for 97 to James Coles' spin—edged to slip, gutting. Still, Warwickshire piled on 341 for seven declared. Bowlers took charge after lunch. Ed Barnard grabbed two early-ish. Then Bamber. Three for 38. Dismissed James Coles, Tom Haines, even Aristides Karvelas. Sussex wobbled at 124 for six. Bamber's bursts stung most. Four balls, two wickets. Game swung Warwickshire's way. Sussex clung on somehow. Fletcha Middleton 31 not out, John Simpson 12 not out. Trail still yawning.

Rob Yates finished unbeaten on 75. He steered Warwickshire to 154 for five in their second innings, grabbing a whopping 217-run lead over Sussex by the close on day two at Hove. Ethan Bamber chipped in with three for 47, triggering that Sussex first-innings tumble to 204 all out.

Sussex started okay, then folded against Warwickshire's tight bowling. Couldn't cope at all. Yates built his knock into an unbroken partnership that leaves the Bears primed to press for outright wins. They're flying in County Championship matches right now.

CricHubb Take

Warwickshire's bowlers know their game. Pair that with Yates digging in deep, and they might just grab a big win off a Sussex side that's running out of steam.
