Shubman Gill has picked up his fifth ICC Player of the Month award for September. He racked up 333 runs against West Indies, capped by an unbeaten 223 that stands as the fastest double century in ODI history. He finished ahead of Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza.

Gill had already won the award in January and September 2023, then again in February and July 2025. This series started with 110 off 108 in Thiruvananthapuram before the record chase. Abhishek Sharma hit 229 runs in three T20Is against Afghanistan, including a 30-ball century. Sikandar Raza made 183 ODI runs and 90 in T20Is against Australia.

Shafali Verma claimed the women's award for the second time after leading India to Asian Games and Asia Cup titles. Indian players have now swept both monthly awards on three occasions.

CricHubb Take

Gill's five awards in barely two years leave the selectors with an awkward question: who, exactly, is allowed to bat ahead of him in the 2027 World Cup order?
