Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the second T20I against New Zealand after suffering a low-grade right adductor strain during the first match. The wicketkeeper-batter sustained the injury while fielding in Christchurch on Thursday.

Kumar Kushagra has been added to India's squad as cover for the second T20I at Hagley Oval. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is likely to come into the playing XI with Sanju Samson expected to move to number three.

Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed that Sooryavanshi is one of the strongest contenders to replace Kishan. The 15-year-old has been warming the bench since India's Asian Games campaign despite strong performances against Zimbabwe earlier in the year.

CricHubb Take

Sooryavanshi's potential inclusion creates an interesting selection dilemma. India's preference for experienced openers may limit his opportunities even when senior players are unavailable.
