Abishek Porel says he wants to answer everyone through cricket

Abishek Porel said his Ranji Trophy century was a statement that he wants to answer everyone through cricket.

Abishek Porel scored an unbeaten 114 off 161 balls for Bengal against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. It was his second first-class hundred and first of the 2026-27 season. He shared an unbroken 199-run stand with Sudip Gharami, who made 122 not out, as Bengal took a 64-run first-innings lead.

Porel had not played competitive cricket since the IPL ended in June. He spent 36 days behind bars in an alleged rape case. He said he didn't want to cry during the celebration, but the emotion came anyway. Bengal coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla and support staff worked intensively to prepare him for the return.

Gharami's steady presence helped Porel stay patient. Porel said the partnership and Gharami's encouragement were crucial to rebuilding his confidence after months away from the game.

CricHubb Take

Porel's unbeaten century shows how quickly a domestic side can reintegrate a player who returns from legal trouble, but the 199-run stand also hints that Bengal's middle order may now carry extra weight if he keeps this form through the rest of the season.
