India captain Shubman Gill was bowled for one by left-arm spinner Ajay Mandal on his return to Ranji Trophy cricket for Punjab against Chhattisgarh. Gill batted at number four and lasted five balls at the PCA New Chandigarh Stadium.
Gill missed Punjab's season opener against Assam and returned for red-ball practice ahead of India's tour of New Zealand. He scored 334 runs at an average of 167 in the recent ODI series against West Indies.
Punjab chose to bat first. The first Test in New Zealand begins on 19 November.
