Ajinkya Rahane picks Bumrah, Arshdeep, Prasidh, Siraj and Mayank Yadav for 2027 World Cup

Ajinkya Rahane selects five pacers for India's 2027 ODI World Cup squad, leaving out established names including Shami and Harshit Rana.

Former India Test captain Ajinkya Rahane has named Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj and Mayank Yadav as his preferred five-man pace attack for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The selection leaves out Harshit Rana, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Gurnoor Brar from consideration.

Rahane's inclusion of Mayank Yadav stands out as the uncapped pacer has not yet played an ODI despite clocking speeds up to 156.7 kmph. Arshdeep and Prasidh have been regular features in India's recent ODI setup, while Siraj earns selection despite fluctuating form.

Harshit Rana's exclusion draws attention given his record of 26 wickets in 14 ODIs at nearly two scalps per game. Mohammed Shami, India's highest wicket-taker in ODI World Cup history with 55 scalps, also misses out after his last international appearance nearly two years ago.

CricHubb Take

Rahane's selection prioritises raw pace over proven World Cup pedigree, suggesting India's strategy for 2027 values express speed above experience.
