Shafali Verma scored 64 off 19 balls to lead India to a 94-run win over Thailand in the Women's Asia Cup opener in Dubai on Monday.

India made 159 for nine after a middle-order collapse on the turning pitch. Deepti Sharma then took three wickets for no runs in 1.1 overs as Thailand were bowled out for 65.

Shafali Verma said the batting unit must assess its performance on turners despite the comfortable victory. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said the side cannot take any opposition lightly.

India's 94-run margin masks the fact that a middle-order collapse on a turning track left the side exposed against even moderate opposition.
