Shafali Verma scored 64 off 36 balls as India defeated Thailand by 94 runs in their Women's Asia Cup opener at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on August 30. Deepti Sharma took three wickets for no runs in 1.1 overs as Thailand were bowled out for 65.
India posted 159 for nine after collapsing from 90 for one to 127 for six. Shafali reached fifty off 19 balls and was the team's top scorer. Nandini Sharma also claimed three wickets.
Shafali said the batting unit must assess its performance on turning pitches. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said no team can be taken lightly after the middle-order collapse.
