Chopra questions Jadeja’s ODI omission despite 2027 World Cup plans
Aakash Chopra criticised the selectors for leaving Ravindra Jadeja out of the entire New Zealand ODI series despite earlier assurances about his 2027 World Cup role.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra questioned the selectors’ decision to leave Ravindra Jadeja out of all five ODIs against New Zealand. Chopra said the move contradicts earlier statements that Jadeja remains part of India’s 2027 World Cup plans. He noted that Jadeja has now been left out of both the first three and final two matches of the series.
Chopra said Axar Patel appears to have moved ahead of Jadeja in the race for a World Cup spot. He added that Jadeja’s white-ball numbers have declined but the selection pattern suggests the team is gradually moving away from the all-rounder. Chopra also questioned why left-arm spinner Manav Suthar was not considered for the Test squad after taking 23 wickets in his first three matches.
India begin the five-match ODI series against New Zealand in Auckland on 4 November.

The gap between what the team management says about Jadeja’s future and what it does in selection suggests the 2027 World Cup planning has already moved on from the veteran all-rounder.
