Ayush Badoni scored a career-best 217 off 246 balls as Delhi declared at 648 for six against Gujarat at the Palam B ground. The Delhi captain added 167 runs with Sumit Mathur, who fell eight runs short of a century. Badoni reached the double century without removing his helmet or raising his bat in celebration. Badoni had resumed on 115 on the second day and batted with ease once the second new ball lost its shine. He had earlier stated his intention to score big runs in the Ranji Trophy this season. The declaration came after Mathur was caught at cow corner off part-timer Manan Hingrajia. Gujarat reached 98 for two at stumps with off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen taking both wickets. Badoni said he celebrates wickets more expressively than centuries, explaining his subdued reaction to the milestone.

CricHubb Take

Badoni's declaration decision suggests Delhi are prioritising an outright win over bonus points, indicating they view Gujarat as a side they can dismiss twice on this surface.
