Bhuvneshwar Kumar says he never chased India comeback

Bhuvneshwar Kumar said his four-year absence from India colours did not feel difficult because he never actively chased a comeback.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar said he did not spend the past four years waiting for a return to the India dressing room. The 36-year-old expressed pride at his comeback but stressed he never actively pursued it after his last appearance in 2022.

"For four years, whatever was coming in front of me — tournaments, challenges, fitness, whatever else — I kept doing. I never thought that I would want to play cricket for a comeback," he said after India's third T20I win against New Zealand in Wellington. Bhuvneshwar credited his two IPL seasons with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he took 45 wickets, for creating the conditions for his recall.

He conceded 139 runs and took one wicket across the first three T20Is of the series. The seamer confirmed he will return to domestic cricket in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy before assessing future opportunities.

Bhuvi's stance reframes the comeback narrative: consistent domestic and IPL output can reopen doors without requiring a deliberate chase.
