'He should not play all three formats': Shastri's advice for Bumrah

Ravi Shastri advised limiting Jasprit Bumrah to Test cricket until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri said Jasprit Bumrah should not play all three formats until the 2027 ODI World Cup. He recommended that Bumrah focus primarily on Test cricket and feature only sporadically in ODIs and T20Is.

Shastri welcomed Bhuvneshwar Kumar's return to the T20I squad and backed Mohammed Shami for a recall in both white-ball and red-ball formats. He described the six-week New Zealand tour as a key indicator of where Indian cricket is heading.

India begin the tour with five T20Is on October 22.

Shastri's workload prescription treats Bumrah as a finite resource rather than an automatic selection. The approach signals that India are already planning squad depth for the 2027 World Cup cycle.
