Wasim Jaffer urges selectors to recall Shami for Test and ODI sides
Wasim Jaffer says Shami deserves an India recall in Tests and ODIs given his domestic returns.
Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has called for Mohammed Shami's return to the Indian Test and ODI teams. Jaffer said on his YouTube channel that Shami has produced strong performances in domestic cricket since recovering from injury and should be picked for the national side.
Shami took 37 wickets in seven Ranji Trophy matches last season and followed that with 15 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and 16 wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also claimed seven wickets for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
Jaffer questioned India's pace-bowling depth ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. He said the selectors have tried several options but have not settled on the second and third seamers. Jaffer said his preferred combination remains Jasprit Bumrah, Shami and Mohammed Siraj.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar's recall after four years is less a one-off selection and more a signal that India are re-embracing experience and swing bowling for white-ball cricket, a tactical and philosophical shift driven by the T20 World Cup cycle.
