Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns to India squad for fifth T20I after Arshdeep Singh injury
Bhuvneshwar Kumar replaces injured Arshdeep Singh for the series-deciding T20I against West Indies in Bengaluru.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been added to India's T20I squad for the fifth match against the West Indies after Arshdeep Singh sustained a shoulder injury during the fourth game. The 36-year-old last represented India in November 2022 and was recalled following strong performances for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL. The series stands at 2-2, with the decider scheduled at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 17.
Rain has delayed the toss and may affect the start of play. The SubAir drainage system at the venue has a strong record for clearing the outfield quickly. Former India cricketer WV Raman said the selection highlights a critical issue with India's pace resources and called for more off-field development time for young fast bowlers.
India coach Morne Morkel confirmed Arshdeep Singh has not been ruled out of the match. Bhuvneshwar was also removed from India's Hong Kong Sixes squad and replaced as captain by an RCB teammate.

Bhuvneshwar's recall shows that India's fast-bowling depth has not yet reached the level where a 36-year-old can be kept out on form alone.
