Shami says Bhuvi recall does not concern him

Shami reacted to Bhuvneshwar Kumar's recall and said his focus remains on domestic cricket.

Mohammed Shami said on Saturday it would not be his loss if he did not get the chance to play for India again, days after fellow veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar got called back to the T20I side for the series against New Zealand. Shami, 36, last played for the country in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Shami initially lost his place in the team in late 2023 after a brilliant World Cup campaign due to an injury. He performed to a good level in domestic tournaments but the team moved on to younger alternatives like Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana. Bhuvneshwar's return after over four years was based on IPL performances where Shami has not been at his best.

Suresh Raina backed Shami to follow Bhuvneshwar back into the national team soon. Shami is set to turn out for Bengal in their opening game of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season.

CricHubb Take

Shami's stance suggests he has accepted that his international career may be over. The selectors have clearly moved on to younger options and his domestic returns have not been enough to force a change of heart.
