Bhuvneshwar Kumar reveals four-year wait shaped his approach to comeback

Kumar says four years away from India duty taught him to focus on process over expectations.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar said the four-year gap from India colours taught him patience. He stopped chasing selection and concentrated on the IPL and domestic cricket instead. The 36-year-old returned this month when Arshdeep Singh was injured and played the opening T20I against New Zealand.

He admitted he never counted down the months. The approach, he said, helped him grow as a bowler and as a person. On the pitch, he has had to adjust to a format where 200 is now par; he believes bowlers can still steer games by pushing batters into the areas they want, rather than giving the batters free rein.

Selectors who once judged him by frequency of selection may now have to judge him by output alone — a shift that could lengthen his career but also make the next omission sting less.
