India named 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the playing XI for the second T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday after Ishan Kishan was ruled out with a low-grade right adductor strain. Sooryavanshi will bat at number three.

Kishan sustained the injury during the first T20I and was replaced in the squad by uncapped wicketkeeper Kumar Kushagra as cover. India also brought in Prince Yadav for Mayank Yadav.

Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said Sooryavanshi was the strongest contender to step in if Kishan could not recover. New Zealand replaced Adam Milne with Jacob Duffy.

The teenager's elevation at number three shows the selectors are willing to alter the batting order rather than delay his exposure once an opening appears.
