Kieron Pollard said his first task as Mumbai Indians head coach is to restore the energy and spirit at Wankhede Stadium by ensuring fans see only the blue flag and not the yellow and red jerseys of Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Pollard said the team must understand what they are playing for and who they are playing for after finishing outside the top eight in the last two IPL seasons. He added that sometimes teams must look back at history to move forward.

Pollard replaced Mahela Jayawardene as head coach and will work with the franchise he represented for 13 years as a player across five title-winning campaigns.

CricHubb Take

Pollard's comment shows he sees fan support as something the team must earn again rather than take for granted after two poor seasons.
