Wasim Jaffer and Ravichandran Ashwin comment on Hardik Pandya trade speculation
Wasim Jaffer and Ravichandran Ashwin offered their views on possible Hardik Pandya trade speculation between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
Wasim Jaffer said Mumbai Indians will appoint a new captain for Hardik Pandya and did not select Rohit Sharma as his successor. Ravichandran Ashwin said Chennai Super Kings must offer three players to acquire Hardik Pandya and that Mumbai Indians will not proceed without a teenager in any trade deal. Chennai Super Kings appeared to drop a hint about signing the all-rounder through social media activity.
A viral trade video sparked speculation about Hardik Pandya moving to Chennai Super Kings. No official trade has been confirmed between the two franchises. Both teams are preparing for the IPL 2026 season with significant squad changes expected.
The speculation follows Hardik Pandya's move to Mumbai Indians ahead of the previous season. Trading an established all-rounder would reshape both teams' playing strategies. Mumbai Indians currently have Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav in their squad.

The public commentary from former players suggests the trade rumours have gained enough traction that analysts feel compelled to address the feasibility rather than dismiss them outright.
