Shubman Gill says Hardik Pandya's absence affects India

Shubman Gill linked Hardik Pandya's injury-enforced absence to India's lower-order concerns, while trade speculation continues around the Mumbai Indians captain.

Shubman Gill said Hardik Pandya's continued absence is hurting India's lower-middle order. The all-rounder has been sidelined since the IPL with multiple injuries, the latest a shin stress complaint. Gill expects Pandya to play domestic matches before returning to the national side.

Former Mumbai player Subramaniam Badrinath commented on Pandya's future with the franchise. Reports suggest Punjab Kings may acquire Pandya through a trade, though Mumbai are understood to prefer a frontline fast bowler in return. Gill noted that positions five through seven are decided by match situations rather than fixed numbers.

Pandya, 32, has captained Mumbai Indians for the past three seasons. An official announcement on his IPL future is expected within 48 hours.

If Pandya moves, Mumbai's decision on the captaincy will shape whether Rohit Sharma returns or the franchise hands the role to Tilak Varma.
