Mumbai Indians respond with 'Loading...' GIF amid captaincy speculation
The franchise's social media response has intensified discussion about Hardik Pandya's future and the possibility of Rohit Sharma returning as captain.
Mumbai Indians responded to a social media post with a 'Loading...' GIF on Friday, prompting fresh speculation about their leadership plans for IPL 2027. The post coincided with ongoing questions over Hardik Pandya's captaincy and the possibility of Rohit Sharma returning to the role. Mahela Jayawardene stepped down as head coach earlier this month, leaving the franchise with multiple key appointments to make.
Hardik replaced Rohit as captain ahead of IPL 2024 after returning to Mumbai from Gujarat Titans. The franchise finished last in his first season before reaching the playoffs in 2025 and ending ninth in 2026. Rohit guided Mumbai to five IPL titles between 2013 and 2020 during his previous tenure as captain.
The franchise has not confirmed any captaincy change or player trade. A new head coach appointment and decisions on player retention will shape Mumbai's plans for the next season.

The absence of any official statement leaves Mumbai's leadership question open at a time when the franchise needs clarity on direction. Without confirmation of either outcome, the speculation risks becoming a distraction from the more pressing task of assembling a competitive squad for 2027.
