Ravichandran Ashwin says Rajasthan Royals lead Hardik Pandya trade talks
Ravichandran Ashwin named Rajasthan Royals as the most likely destination for Hardik Pandya if a trade takes place.
Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said Rajasthan Royals are the frontrunners to sign Hardik Pandya if a trade materialises ahead of IPL 2027. Ashwin dismissed speculation that Chennai Super Kings could secure Pandya, calling such a move a distant possibility despite reports that MS Dhoni might personally convince the all-rounder. He made the comments on his YouTube channel.
Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians in the biggest IPL trade three years ago but the franchise finished ninth in 2026 after a disappointing campaign. Mumbai Indians confirmed on Saturday that head coach Mahela Jayawardene has ended his second stint with the franchise. The retention deadline is November 15.
Ashwin noted that Pandya has not worked with Rajasthan's current head coach Kumar Sangakkara, while previous reports suggested a rift with Chennai's new coach Zaheer Khan during the latter's time at Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians have reportedly held discussions with several franchises over a possible trade.

If Rajasthan Royals secure Pandya, the franchise gains both a proven finisher and a potential captaincy option while Mumbai Indians must decide whether Tilak Varma is ready to lead.
