Punjab captain Uday Saharan scored 161 and wicketkeeper Salil Arora made 107 as Punjab posted 456 in their first innings against Chhattisgarh on day two of their Ranji Trophy match in New Chandigarh. The pair added 191 runs for the fifth wicket after resuming on 269 for four.

Left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar then took five for 21 in 11 overs to leave Chhattisgarh at 72 for five at stumps, still 384 runs behind. Brar dismissed Sanidhya Hurkat, Aayush Pandey, Sanjeet Desai, Ashutosh Singh and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.

Chhattisgarh's Dharmendrasinh Jadeja took seven for 173 from 55.5 overs in Punjab's innings. Amandeep Khare was unbeaten on 15 at stumps.

CricHubb Take

Punjab's first-innings total puts them in control, but the real question is whether Brar can keep Chhattisgarh's lower order quiet on day three or if Jadeja's seven wickets set up a fightback once the pitch wears further.
