Abhishek Sharma says West Indies had a plan for him in Indore

Abhishek Sharma said he had to counter West Indies' plan against him in Indore, where he scored 69 off 30 balls to help India take a 2-1 series lead.

Abhishek Sharma said West Indies had a clear plan against him in the third T20I in Indore but he had to play better than their strategy allowed. The left-handed opener scored 69 off 30 balls, including six fours and five sixes, as India posted 223 and won by 14 runs. He said the decision to open with off-spinner Roston Chase and place fielders on the off side forced him to explore different scoring options.

Abhishek said he gave Chase respect in the first over because the bowler had been effective in the series. He added that he does not think deliberately during his innings but reacts to field placements that allow him room to play his shots. India took a 2-1 lead in the five-match series with the win.

The series is now tied at 2-2 ahead of the final match in Bengaluru, where rain is forecast.

Abhishek's ability to adjust mid-innings against a specific plan shows why India view him as more than just a powerplay aggressor.
