39. England expands men's central contracts list

England has expanded its men's central contracts list to a record 39 players for the 2026-27 season.

England handed out central contracts to a record 39 players for 2026-27, up from 30 last year. Thirty get full deals and nine sit on development contracts.

Eleven of those full deals run for two years until September 2028: Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jofra Archer and Jacob Bethell are among them. Ben Stokes and Mark Wood both retired from internationals this year, freeing up space.

Seven players stepped into their first full contracts. Henry Crocombe, Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker, Tom Banton, Sam Cook, Emilio Gay, Matthew Fisher and Dan Lawrence all made the list, while Ollie Robinson returns after earlier stints in 2022 and 2023.

CricHubb Take

The real question is whether the extra contracts turn into more match time for the fringe players, or if the same core group still gets picked for every tour.
