Josh Tongue ruled out of England tour after injury assessment
Josh Tongue was ruled out of England's Australia tour after injury assessment. Jacob Bethell remains an outside chance for the ODI series opener.
Josh Tongue's tour ended hours after England's final match when he was sent home for further checks. He had landed in Perth only days earlier and was set to play in the ODI leg alone.
No return date has been given. Jacob Bethell is still working his way back from injury but is seen as an outside chance for the first ODI next Friday.
Brendon McCullum called Bethell a strong leader across formats and said the team will judge him day by day once the series begins.

Bethell's day-by-day checks mean England could be naming a replacement opener at the last minute, which might force a late tweak to their middle-order plans if he is ruled out again.
