Former wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta has suggested trying the Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi combination ahead of the Afghanistan T20I series. With Sanju Samson now back in the squad, the opening combination will once again be a major talking point.

Former India batter Wasim Jaffer believes 31-year-old Sanju Samson is good enough to walk into several other international teams. Dasgupta has also backed Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma as India's opening pair for the Afghanistan T20I series, starting September 13.

The series begins at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on 13 September.

CricHubb Take

Pairing a 31-year-old middle-order anchor with a 15-year-old opener is a deliberate bet on experience over conventional roles, and the first three matches will show whether that bet holds under international pressure.
