Josh Inglis hopes to feature in Cape Town as he recovers from a finger fracture sustained during Australia's ODI series in South Africa.

Australia wicketkeeper Josh Inglis is in contention to play as a batter in the Cape Town Test against South Africa while recovering from a fractured right index finger. The 31-year-old suffered the injury while keeping to Mitchell Starc during the first ODI against South Africa in Durban last month.

Inglis has played only five of Australia's last 20 Tests despite being in every squad since the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He scored a century on debut against Sri Lanka in Galle but has had limited opportunities since.

He said he hopes to follow Matthew Renshaw's example of a successful middle-order return if selected. Inglis added that Test cricket is difficult without regular red-ball rhythm and that he must stick to a clear game plan if given the chance in Cape Town.

CricHubb Take

Inglis's sporadic Test appearances show how hard it is for a white-ball specialist to break into Australia's red-ball side, even when he has already proved he can score at the highest level.
