Cameron Green's availability uncertain for Gqeberha Test

Cameron Green's participation in second Test against South Africa depends on fitness assessments over next three days.

Head coach Andrew McDonald says Cameron Green must pass more fitness checks before the selectors can pick him for the second World Test Championship match. The all-rounder has three days to prove his fitness ahead of the game that starts on Sunday, October 18 in Gqeberha.

Green missed the opening Test with an abdominal injury, and McDonald noted steady improvement but gave no guarantee of selection. The coach added that Josh Inglis, who hurt a finger in last month's ODI series, will do more batting practice in Gqeberha to check if he can wear the required protection.

Cooper Connolly, who missed the first match through illness, is also in the frame because his spin bowling could be useful. Australia lead the three-match series 1-0.

CricHubb Take

If Green is unavailable, Australia's middle order loses its most reliable seam-bowling option, forcing a choice between adding another specialist batter or relying on Cooper Connolly's part-time spin to balance the side on a surface that may offer turn.
