Maddinson and Harper added to Australia's Test squad in South Africa

Maddinson and Harper join Australia squad as Inglis and Green face injury concerns.

Nic Maddinson and Sam Harper have been added to Australia's Test squad for the three-match series against South Africa after Josh Inglis was ruled out with a fractured right index finger. Maddinson returns to the Test setup nearly a decade after his last appearance against Pakistan in December 2016.

Harper earned his maiden international call-up after scoring 128 for Australia A against India A in Puducherry this week. Cameron Green is in doubt for the opening Test after suffering an abdominal strain in Wednesday's ODI, though scans have not ruled him out of the Durban match on October 9.

The series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle and begins at Kingsmead next week.

CricHubb Take

Harper's selection signals a willingness to blood a specialist keeper rather than continue rotating part-time options behind the stumps, a shift that could stabilise Australia's lower order across longer formats.
