Kagiso Rabada set to return for South Africa in second Test against Australia

Kagiso Rabada is expected to return for South Africa's second Test against Australia after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Kagiso Rabada looks set to play South Africa's second Test against Australia at St George's Park in Gqeberha from October 18. He hasn't played competitive cricket since the IPL 2026 final on May 31 because of a hamstring injury.

Captain Temba Bavuma said Rabada looks fit after the extra recovery time and called his omission from the first Test a precaution. Anrich Nortje is the player most likely to drop out if Rabada is picked.

South Africa trail the three-match series 0-1 after losing the opening Test in Durban by 214 runs.

Bavuma's wording suggests South Africa are weighing Rabada's workload across the series, not just this match — if Nortje sits, the second innings workload in Gqeberha becomes the real test of how much the management trusts the recovery timeline.
