Rabada set to return for South Africa second Test

South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is likely to return for the second Test after missing the Durban opener with a hamstring injury.

Kagiso Rabada is expected to return to South Africa's playing XI for the second Test against Australia in Gqeberha, captain Temba Bavuma said on Thursday. The fast bowler missed the opening Test in Durban as a precautionary measure after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during winter training.

Rabada hasn't played competitive cricket since the IPL final in May. He bowled with increasing intensity during the first Test and looks ready to replace Anrich Nortje, who bowled 40 overs across two innings in Durban.

South Africa will name an updated squad on Thursday. The second Test begins on Friday at St George's Park.

The real question now is whether Rabada's return also means a shorter first-innings spell for Nortje, or if South Africa will try to bowl both at full throttle and risk the same fatigue that surfaced in Durban.
