Sai Sudharsan switched India A series for Ranji Trophy on selectors' advice
Sudharsan prioritised Ranji Trophy appearances after selectors encouraged him to focus on red-ball cricket.
Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan said he opted out of the India A series against New Zealand to play in the Ranji Trophy after receiving advice from selectors. The 24-year-old has been watching old footage of India's Tests in New Zealand to prepare for potential conditions.
Sudharsan scored 537 runs at an average of 48.81 in his first season for Gujarat last year. He is expected to feature prominently when Gujarat begin their Ranji campaign. The move comes as India prepare for a five-match ODI and two-Test tour of New Zealand starting in November.
Selectors have signalled that domestic performances will carry weight in final tour selections. Sudharsan will hope his decision to play four-day cricket strengthens his case for a maiden call-up.

The choice underscores how seriously India now treat first-class form when picking players for overseas conditions.
