Ambati Rayudu praises Shreyas Iyer's 30 in Wellington loss
Ambati Rayudu defended Shreyas Iyer's 30 as a valuable contribution despite India's three-wicket loss in the first ODI at Wellington.
Ambati Rayudu said Shreyas Iyer's 30 was valuable in the conditions during India's chase in Wellington. India lost the first ODI by three wickets after being bowled out for 113 in 26 overs.
Murali Kartik noted the pitch proved difficult for the entire Indian batting lineup. Kartik also pointed out that Axar Patel received a difficult delivery early in his innings and suggested one player could have attempted to disrupt the bowlers during the chase.
Iyer was dismissed for 15 by a short ball from Jacob Duffy in Auckland's second ODI. New Zealand scored 134 in their innings before India fell short in pursuit of the revised target.

Rayudu's defence of Iyer's knock suggests the innings contained shots that don't appear in the scorecard but demonstrated the right intent on a difficult surface.
