PCB yet to announce new central contracts more than two months after previous deals expired

The PCB has delayed announcing new central contracts more than two months after the previous deals expired on July 31.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has not announced its new list of centrally contracted players more than two months after the previous contracts expired on July 31. The delay has raised questions over whether the new 12-month deals have been finalised. The board is moving toward format-specific contracts, with players potentially receiving separate Test or T20 retainers.

Negotiations have been slowed by player resistance to being restricted to a single format. Under the new structure, only players with recent international experience will receive retainers, based on formats they specialise in. All players must clear medical, domestic participation and performance criteria.

The PCB has given conflicting indications on whether the final list will be made public. One official said the board was not obliged to release it, while another confirmed it would eventually be announced.

CricHubb Take

The shift to format-specific contracts is an attempt to control costs and manage workloads, but prolonged negotiations suggest players see it as a reduction in bargaining power.
