R Ashwin questions Manav Suthar's omission from New Zealand Test squad
Ashwin says Suthar deserved selection for continuity and as injury cover despite limited playing prospects.
Ravichandran Ashwin said Manav Suthar should have been included in India's Test squad for New Zealand even if he was not expected to play. Suthar has taken 23 wickets in three Tests at an average of 17.34. Ashwin argued that the left-arm spinner offers an attacking option the current squad lacks.
India named Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja as the main spinners, with Kuldeep Yadav as cover. Ashwin said Suthar could have gained valuable experience on tour and provided cover in case of injury.
Suthar recently captained Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy but did not take a wicket against Tamil Nadu.

Excluding Suthar removes a proven wicket-taker from the touring party and reduces India's options if Jadeja or Sundar are injured during the series.
