Gambhir tells Mayank Yadav to bowl fast, not experiment

Gautam Gambhir has instructed Mayank Yadav to bowl at his natural pace instead of relying on variations, following the pacer's three-wicket powerplay spell against West Indies.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has told Mayank Yadav to rely on pace rather than variations after the pacer took three wickets in the powerplay against West Indies in Ranchi.

Gambhir said Mayank must bowl at his natural speed, whether that is 150 kmph or 120 kmph, because that is his primary responsibility as a fast bowler. The 23-year-old had been expensive in the first T20I after trying too many changes of pace.

In Ranchi, Mayank bowled consistently above 140 kmph and dismissed Kamil Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell inside the first six overs. His figures of 3 for 36 from three overs gave India early control in a match they eventually lost by six wickets.

By publicly anchoring Mayank to raw speed, Gambhir signals that selection will now reward identity over versatility, narrowing the criteria for future fast-bowling picks.
