Mitchell Santner took four for 21 as New Zealand reduced India from 40 for none to 112 for six in the second T20I at Christchurch. The New Zealand captain became the first bowler to take two four-wicket hauls against India in T20Is, having previously taken four for 11 in the 2016 World Cup.

Santner dismissed Abhishek Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Naman Dhir as New Zealand looked set to defend 181. However, dropped catches and misfields allowed India to recover through Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy's partnership.

Santner said New Zealand were in a good position but their fielding errors let India back into the match. The hosts posted 180 for five after Glenn Phillips made 70 and Bevon Jacobs scored 58 in a 116-run stand.

CricHubb Take

Santner's four-wicket haul masks New Zealand's deeper issue with catching and ground fielding. The pattern of creating opportunities but failing to convert them has cost the hosts both matches in this series.
