Iyer said the team has told Sooryavanshi he will get opportunities if he stays consistent with his processes.

Shreyas Iyer said Vaibhav Sooryavanshi cannot walk into India's T20I playing XI because Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are scoring consistently at the top. The captain told reporters ahead of the New Zealand series that the 15-year-old has more years ahead and must remain patient. Sooryavanshi has played eight T20Is, all overseas, while the established openers have kept their places in home conditions.

Iyer's comments show India are unwilling to disrupt a settled opening pair even for a prodigy who dominated the IPL. The decision places the onus on Sooryavanshi to prove he deserves selection through domestic performances rather than reputation alone.
