Starc reached 450 Test wickets faster than any left-arm bowler and faster in balls bowled than any Australian.

Mitchell Starc reached 450 Test wickets on the third day of the second Test against South Africa in Gqeberha on Tuesday. He dismissed Wiaan Mulder to become the first left-arm bowler to reach the mark, doing so in 20,577 balls and 109 Tests.

Starc is the fourth Australian after Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Nathan Lyon to take 450 or more Test wickets. He broke McGrath's previous record for the fewest balls bowled to reach the milestone.

Australia lead the series 1-0. Starc has taken 19 five-wicket hauls and four ten-wicket matches in his Test career.

CricHubb Take

Starc's 20,577 balls to 450 wickets is the new benchmark; the next generation of left-arm quicks will be measured against a pace bowler's workload, not a spinner's.
