Mohammed Shami says he is still at his peak despite New Zealand snub
Shami insists he remains at his peak and will keep working toward an India return after being left out of the New Zealand tour.
Mohammed Shami has responded to his omission from India's New Zealand tour, insisting he is still at his peak and refusing to give up hope of a national comeback. The experienced fast bowler remains determined to prove his fitness and earn another opportunity to represent India.
Shami last played for India during the Champions Trophy in March 2025, where he tied with Varun Chakravarthy as India's top wicket-taker. He said he is fully fit and bowling with good rhythm, and that he will continue to play domestic cricket to stay ready.
Shami praised Bhuvneshwar Kumar's return to the T20I squad and said he would end his career with Bengal. He added that he is not thinking about the 2027 World Cup and is focused on his skill and fitness in the present.

Shami's insistence on his fitness places the onus back on selectors to explain why experience is being overlooked at a time when India's pace resources remain thin.
