Mohammed Shami took four wickets for Bengal against Delhi on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy match at the Bengal Cricket Academy ground on October 11. The 36-year-old dismissed Yash Dhull early and later removed Ayush Doseja and Divij Mehra as Bengal bowled Delhi out for 240.

Shami dismissed questions about his fitness and rhythm, saying reporters should write what they see on the field. He added that he does not care about opinions on his rhythm and fitness and focuses on enjoying his game.

Shami welcomed Bhuvneshwar Kumar's selection for India's T20I tour of New Zealand, saying the swing bowler should have been picked earlier after his back-to-back IPL title wins with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Shami's domestic returns keep pressure on selectors to explain why experience is being passed over while younger bowlers with less proven red-ball records are retained in national plans.
