Zaheer Khan to meet MS Dhoni before CSK finalise retentions
Zaheer Khan will consult MS Dhoni before CSK finalise player retentions ahead of the November 15 deadline.
Zaheer Khan met Chennai Super Kings team management in Chennai on Monday to finalise his support staff. The head coach will travel to Mumbai in the coming days to hold discussions with MS Dhoni before returning to Chennai to assess the playing group ahead of the November 15 retention deadline.
CSK have already appointed Mohit Sharma as bowling coach and confirmed Albie Morkel and Gareth Batty as assistant coaches. James Foster and S Sriram will continue in their roles, while Michael Hussey, Eric Simons and Rajiv Kumar have departed. The franchise must decide which players to retain and which to release to maximise their purse for the December 16 mini-auction.
One area CSK want to strengthen is their overseas contingent, which has not delivered at previous levels in recent seasons. The retention decisions will determine how much auction money the franchise can carry into the mini-auction.
CricHubb Take
The timing of Dhoni's input suggests his influence on squad planning remains significant even as his playing future stays uncertain pending medical evaluations.
