Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan said on Tuesday that MS Dhoni could return for the 2027 IPL season despite missing the entire 2026 campaign through injury. The 45-year-old wicketkeeper-batter did not feature in a single match as the franchise finished eighth in the ten-team table.

Viswanathan told local media that only Dhoni himself can decide his future and that the franchise is waiting for his decision when he arrives in Chennai. He added that Dhoni remains an active player on the franchise's books.

Former CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said Dhoni's presence at training sessions helped young players and maintained team continuity. Suresh Raina has also urged Dhoni to return for the 2027 season.
