Naman Dhir remained unbeaten on 42 off 15 balls to help India chase down 226 and beat New Zealand by four wickets in the first T20I in Christchurch. Dhir hit five fours and two sixes after coming to the crease with India needing 55 from five overs.

Sanju Samson scored 67 off 33 balls to set up the chase before New Zealand fought back through Mitchell Santner. Dhir survived a dropped catch and an outside edge before finishing the match with a six off Matt Henry.

India made a strong start through openers Samson and Abhishek Sharma before losing three wickets in quick succession. Dhir's finishing knock gave India their highest successful T20I chase and a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

CricHubb Take

Dhir's ability to attack from ball one without lengthy settling periods marks him as a different kind of finisher from the traditional mould.
