South Africa captain Temba Bavuma scored 179 to help his side recover from 110 for 6 and declare at 425 for 9 on day three of the second Test against Australia in Gqeberha. Bavuma added 132 runs for the seventh wicket with Marco Jansen, who made 85, and 183 for the eighth with Simon Harmer, who scored 82.

Australia's Pat Cummins finished wicketless and conceded 96 runs, his second-most expensive return in Tests. Scott Boland took five for 81 as South Africa added 315 runs after losing their sixth wicket.

Australia ended the day at 3 for 1 after losing Nic Maddinson for a duck. They lead the three-match series 1-0 after winning the first Test in Durban by 214 runs.

CricHubb Take

Bavuma's century stand with Harmer means Australia's bowlers must now handle a second new ball on a pitch that has offered little help so far.
