Australia captain Pat Cummins has urged better medical care for jailed former Pakistan prime minister and cricket legend Imran Khan. Cummins becomes the first active cricketer to back the campaign for proper treatment.

Twenty-two former international captains jointly wrote to Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif last week urging proper medical care inside prison. Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 and is battling health issues.

Cummins posted on social media that he hopes Imran Khan is treated with the dignity anyone deserves. Former captains Javed Miandad and Moin Khan have also expressed concern over his health.

Cummins's intervention as an active captain shifts the campaign from retired players' advocacy to current leadership concern. The involvement of sitting captains carries different weight in diplomatic cricket circles.
