Former players David Warner and Mark Waugh questioned Australia's Test XI composition for the Cape Town Test, where the team made four changes. Steve Smith batted in the nets for nearly an hour on the eve of the Test but showed discomfort while batting.

Cummins described Smith as one of Australia's greatest batters. South Africa scored 329 all out in their first innings, with Mitchell Starc taking 6-72. Australia reached 330 for four in reply, with Josh Inglis unbeaten on 85 and Matt Renshaw on 74.

The match continues at Newlands, where Australia lead by one run after two days.
