Australia captain Pat Cummins said Australia has to be ready to handle any ebb and flow during the course of a tricky Test at Durban. The first Test begins at Kingsmead on Friday and conditions are expected to fluctuate on what is often described as a tricky wicket.

Cummins said the team must become better at grinding out results in Test cricket rather than relying on strong individual performances. He noted that Australia has not played too many of those kinds of Test matches in the last few years, particularly in Australia. Cummins said getting into that grind is important for both batsmen and the bowling group.

Australia delayed announcing its team, in contrast to South Africa, whose captain Temba Bavuma had earlier revealed his side's line-up. Cummins said the selectors will come down on Friday morning and have one more look at the ground before finalising the XI.

CricHubb Take

Cummins's emphasis on grinding sessions rather than relying on big moments hints at a tactical adjustment for a series where conditions may not favour Australia's usual high-tempo approach.
