400. Chinmay Sutar scores second-highest Ranji Trophy innings
Chinmay Sutar became only the second Indian to score 400 in first-class cricket during a Ranji Trophy match.
Chinmay Sutar scored 400 not out off 517 balls for Mizoram against Nagaland in a Ranji Trophy Plate group match at Sovima on Monday. The 29-year-old No. 3 batter hit 46 fours and seven sixes before Mizoram declared at 581 for nine.
Sutar surpassed Prithvi Shaw's 379 and Sanjay Manjrekar's 377 to move into second place on the all-time Ranji list. Only Bhausaheb Babasaheb Nimbalkar's unbeaten 443 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in 1948 stands higher.
Sutar, whose father Rajesh opened the batting with Sachin Tendulkar for Mumbai, played one Vijay Hazare match for Mumbai last season and has been a leading run-scorer in the T20 Mumbai League.

Sutar's marathon innings in a Plate group match shows that domestic volume scoring still matters, even when national selection appears to reward white-ball utility over red-ball accumulation.
